We know there are times when it makes sense to upgrade to a newer technology, or standardize on one manufacturer. While our program is similar to upgrading to a new smartphone, television or vehicle, AEDs are a bit different. Rather than improve your access to the internet, picture quality or fuel efficiency, AEDs are improving in ways that positively change outcomes in life or death situations.

We started selling AEDs with the Lifepak 100, First Medic 510 and Laerdal 1000 were the latest technology. These devices, while the best at the time, seem incredibly primitive now. They were heavy, feature-poor and had rechargeable batteries that often were dead when called on in a rescue. We are fond of saying that our favorite AED is the closest one to a sudden cardiac arrest victim. Refurbishing older AEDs to be placed in locations in need is a mission our entire industry should support, and we commend those that join us in this cause (there are several).
