Introduction
CoroMed has teamed up with medical manufacturer Masimo technologies to bring on a wide variety of hospital and personal devices.
Masimo specializes in premium, high-performance monitoring technologies in both the hospital and at home, including innovative measurements, sensors, and patient monitors. Masimo provides high-performing pulse oximetry devices by employing advanced signal processing techniques–including parallel engines and adaptive filters. Masimo is responsible for revolutionizing its industry with the development of Signal Extraction Technology (SET), giving clinicians and patients accurate oxygen and pulse rates during challenging conditions. This post will provide an all-encompassing rundown of Masimo, including an explanation of their Signal Extraction Technology (SET) and product line that monitors over 100 million patients every year.
What is Masimo’s SET technology?
Signal Extraction Technology was debuted in 1995 by Joe Kiani and Mohamed Diab to reduce the chance of excessive false alarms, delayed notification due to long averaging times, inaccurate data, and an inability to obtain data on the most critical patients. The award-winning Masimo SET® pulse oximetry technology has been clinically proven to outperform other pulse-oximetry technologies and is being used today in leading hospitals worldwide. Continuing in its path of innovation, Masimo has also produced the non-invasive technology Rainbow Pulse Co-Oximetry, allowing clinicians to monitor patients’ hemoglobin, methemoglobin, and carboxyhemoglobin. Other technologies such as SedLine technology for brain function monitoring, O3 technology for regional oximetry, and Nomoline Capnography for multi-gas measurement display Masimo’s robust array of features for their products.
Analyzing Masimo’s Medical Technology Product Line
Masimo’s Medical Technology product line consists of both physicians office products and surgery center products:
Physicians Office Products
- Handheld Pulse-Ox – The only fingertip pulse oximeter to measure five key vital signs: oxygen saturation, pulse rate, breathing rate, perfusion index, and pleth variability index; powered by Masimo SET®– the same technology used to monitor over 200 million patients at hospitals around the world.
- Hemoglobin Pulse – Masimo rainbow SET is a non-invasive monitoring platform featuring Masimo SET® Measure-through Motion and Low Perfusion™ pulse oximetry with the option to measure multiple additional parameters.
Surgery Center Products
- Monitors EtCo2 – The Root patient monitoring and connectivity platform are expandable with the ISA CO2 module for your capnography monitoring needs. Displays end-tidal carbon dioxide (EtCO2) waveform and measurements and trends of EtCO2, fractional concentration of inspired carbon dioxide (FiCO2), and respiration rate (RR). It is indicated for monitoring infant, pediatric, or adult patients in various hospital environments, including the OR, ICU, and medical-surgical units.
- Integrated non-invasive blood pressure and temperature monitoring
- Hemoglobin – Without SpHb (Total Hemoglobin), clinicians are often limited to invasive blood samples, which provide intermittent and delayed laboratory hemoglobin results. SpHb can be used with traditional laboratory methods to obtain real-time visibility of changes, or lack of changes, in hemoglobin between invasive blood samples. For the surgical case shown below (image, right), SpHb was retrospectively obtained when clinicians could not assess the hemoglobin trend between invasive blood samples during the procedure. Studies have shown that SpHb may help clinicians reduce blood transfusions in low and high blood loss surgeries.
- Rad-57 – brings CO measurement to fire and training grounds in a painless, non-invasive device that delivers readings in seconds.
